One Opening, Two Options: Maritime teacher with social studies OR science background.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Oxford Academy, a small, all-boys boarding school nestled in the beautiful seaside village of Westbrook, CT, seeks a dedicated and maritime minded educator to join our faculty as a full-time Residential Faculty member.

This is a unique "Triple Threat" opportunity for an individual passionate about making a significant, positive impact on the lives of adolescent boys both in and out of the classroom. The successful candidate will integrate fully into our community, balancing academic rigor with essential residential mentorship.

The Residential Component of this role is mandatory and is accompanied by a robust compensation package, including spacious, private housing and full board.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is an integrated role spanning two vital areas of school life: Academic Instruction and Residential Life.

1. Academic Instruction (Flexible Assignment: Maritime Track OR Social Studies or Science)

Oxford Academy is uniquely positioned to tailor this role to the strengths of the successful candidate. The teaching assignment will be determined based on the applicant's expertise and the strategic needs of the Academy, focusing on one of two key tracks.

A Critical Note on Instruction: Regardless of the track, all instruction is delivered in Oxford’s renowned one-to-one teaching environment using the Oxford Method, allowing for deep student connection and curriculum personalization.

Oxford’s flexible approach to the position: 

• An attractive candidate could offer electives or courses in disciplines of science, social studies, and/or study skills as well as helping further develop Oxford’s maritime offerings.
• Maritime & Experiential Programs
• Leverage our coastal location to develop and lead maritime, boating, maritime history, or related experiential courses and programs.
• This track is ideal for candidates with sailing, boating, maritime history, or environmental/marine science backgrounds or interests.

2. Residential Life (Dorm Faculty)

• Dorm Parent: Serve as a live-in Dorm Parent and mentor, fostering a structured and positive community environment for 8th grade through PG students.
• Supervision: Provide evening and weekend supervision on scheduled days rotating with two other dorm parents, leading trips and activities and managing daily student well-being.
• Activities: Assist with two seasons of after-school activities or athletics

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This position offers exceptional value in its comprehensive benefits package:

• Salary: Competitive, open. $38K-$42K base salary plus $22K-$30K in housing and related benefits. 
• Housing: Private, spacious, full-time, year-round on-campus housing provided.
• Board: All meals covered during the academic year.
• Utilities & Maintenance: All essential utilities and property maintenance are covered by the Academy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• A Bachelor’s degree (4-year college degree) from an accredited institution.
• Academic Background: A strong academic background in either:
• Social Studies, Science, or
• A relevant field related to Maritime, Boating, Maritime History or Environmental Studies.
• Emotional maturity, flexibility, and a high level of organization required for balancing multiple roles.
• Driver’s License.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in a camp/ youth leadership, boarding school, or similar student-facing boarding environment.
• Ability to coach or lead a specific sport or recognized club/activity is a strong advantage.
