The Northeastern Marketing Department is looking for a UX / product management trailblazer to lead a critical part of our business. We're stripping our primary web property down to the studs to rebuild a category-defining brand experience.
As Director of User Experience, you will work with university leaders to translate user, brand, and business needs into a dynamic web experience befitting the Northeastern brand. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Marketing, you will lead a team of UX/UI designers and full stack developers, arming them with strategic creative thinking, digital experience trends, and the latest technologies. Together, you will redefine Northeastern.edu to deliver a premium experience at the intersection of user needs and business objectives for all university audiences.
This role is responsible for guiding the entirety of the web design from discovery through implementation, as well as defining and creating the systems for scaling the brand-defined user experience across university web properties.

Mastery of UI design, trends, tools for creation and deployment
Expertise in creating the full range of UX/UI artifacts
Energetic leader deft at maximizing the talent of internal and external teams
Keen sense of design aesthetic married with the analytical chops to support functional recommendations
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences at various levels of our organization
Understanding of research methodologies, analytic tools and optimization testing
Diplomatic (yet tenacious) problem solver

Experience in higher education is not needed, nor is it desired
The position is based on the Boston campus with the option of one remote day per week.
Responsibilities:
50% of time
Partner with marketing colleagues and university stakeholders to understand business objectives and audience needs, goals, motivations, and behaviors
Establish an actionable Northeastern.edu vision and 3-5 year roadmap aligned with university priorities
Create and document a scalable brand-defined digital design system to be leveraged across the university
Design and/or direct story boards, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, etc. as needed
Ensure brand implications are considered through the design process, documenting necessary decisions as standard
Integrate with ITS digital group as part of the university digital governance model
Develop tools for realizing efficiency and adherence to digital governance standards
35% of time
Lead, manage, and mentor the in-house team of UX/UI designers and full stack developers to deliver on the Northeastern.edu vision with individualized professional development paths
Identify, evaluate, and manage external partners to deliver Manage agency partners in alignment brand standards and experience vision
Critique in-progress design work, evaluating the priority and effectivity of solutions and maintaining a standard of quality
Coach team through reviews and feedback and support their UX/UI growth
Raise the capacity, skills and quality of our digital design
15% of time
Identify research needs, persona definition, and user journey mapping required, without overengineering the process
Direct research methodologies and output quality
Create test and learn plans, evaluate performance metrics and provide recommendations for optimizing results
