In this position, you will be a key legal partner to various stakeholders across the Textron Enterprise, with responsibilities covering a wide range of commercial litigation and intellectual property matters.
As part of the Corporate litigation team, you will be part of an elite team of Textron in-house attorneys. You will work closely with business operations to establish and maintain policies and procedures with respect to the development and protection of the company’s significant intellectual property assets. You will take the lead on licensing, IP diligence, and IP related transactional work, and you will manage litigation as assigned, including pre-litigation counseling, risk mitigation, and related administrative work on the company’s behalf. In this position you will work closely with Textron’s VP & Deputy General Counsel--Litigation, with the President & Executive Director of Textron Innovations, and with numerous business leaders and personnel – all to support the needs of Textron, its businesses, and the corporate headquarters.
As Assistant General Counsel – Intellectual Property & Litigation, you will:
- Provide timely, practical, and business-oriented legal advice on a wide range of intellectual property issues, especially related to IP enforcement through the company’s Cease & Desist program, licensing, clearance searches, social media and domain name disputes, IP training on best practices, review of marketing collateral, advice on trademark registration and strategy, copyright, trade secret and patent issues.
- Support negotiation and drafting of licensing, non-disclosure, joint development, and other intellectual property related agreements as requested.
- Counsel stakeholders in the areas of general commercial, contract and IP (patent, trademark and copyright) related matters. Critical to this function will be advising stakeholders concerning compliance with legal requirements related to those matters and pre-litigation using knowledge of legal precedents and company policies and priorities.
- Oversee case management of litigation matters, whether before an administrative agency or court of general jurisdiction, on a global basis.
- Partner with functional leaders to develop policies and procedures related to IP in support of business strategies.
- Participate in and support other legal matters and activities, as required.
Here is the education and experience required for success in this role:
- J.D. and membership in good standing with a U.S. State bar.
- 7-10 years of experience involving litigation and intellectual property matters working in private law firms or corporate legal departments

- Experience in drafting, negotiating, and analyzing contracts, including intellectual property and indemnification provisions

- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, including good negotiation abilities

- Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments simultaneously
