Associate Director of Marketing ContentAbout the OpportunitySummary:Northeastern's Marketing Department in the Office of External Affairs seeks an experienced, versatile, creative copywriter to manage a growing team in the creation of sharp, sophisticated marketing and brand content across a variety of audiences and platforms. This role is a great opportunity for an experienced copywriter who also understands marketing strategy and enjoys mentoring others. You'll get to contribute to creating a cohesive and compelling brand experience for Northeastern by setting the standards for clear, consistent writing and messaging. You'll help find new ways to creatively reach audiences. And you'll use your leadership experience to help build a collaborative, efficient in-house marketing agency able to nimbly oversee and lead a global knowledge brand like Northeastern.
This is a fit for someone who loves words and design and thrives working on a variety of projects. First and foremost, you need to be able to recognize and tell a compelling story in a variety of forms. You'll need to be able to write short, long, and everything in between, and be comfortable writing across channels and in a range of tones and styles. You'll need to be a sharp editor, and have a proven record of both managing writers on the core team, and directing writers with partner agencies and on marketing teams throughout the university.
Qualifications:There's no one background that makes you the perfect candidate, but you must be as-if not more-effective writing for digital platforms as for print. You'll need a solid understanding of website architecture, content strategy, UX writing, and the ability to think conceptually about copy. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to toggle a variety of projects, a knack for cutting through complicated topics and jargon, and a deep curiosity about a range of subjects and the writing craft itself. You should also be comfortable creating and delivering pitch presentations to get strategic and/or creative buy-in among leadership and stakeholders.
You'll ideally have five-plus years of deep knowledge of copywriting techniques including UX principles across platforms and devices, experience at a senior level for a large organization or for an advertising/marketing agency, and at least two years of management. You should also have a bachelor's degree and/or a master's degree, in English, journalism, creative writing, public relations, or a related field.
Excellent people skills are a must. Because Northeastern is a global university with locations in multiple countries, you'll need to be culturally aware, both in professional interactions and in the work you produce.

- Provides timely, effective feedback to team members
- Inspires new thinking, skill-building, and collaboration
