The Legal & Regulatory Group is responsible for partnering with Bridgewater businesses to protect the legal and regulatory interests of Bridgewater and its clients, manage legal risk and to ensure that employees act in accordance with the highest legal and ethical standards. Our group maintains in-house expertise in many areas, including corporate, investment management, private funds, intellectual property, employment and commercial law and compliance. The team works closely with a broad range of departments within the firm and manages active relationships with external counsel.
About the Role:
The Senior Compliance Officer and Counsel (“Senior Compliance Counsel”) will be expected to be a leader within Bridgewater’s compliance function on day one. Together with other members of the team, the Senior Compliance Counsel will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Bridgewater’s regulatory obligations. While expected to contribute across all areas of the compliance program, primary responsibilities will involve the management and oversight of Bridgewater’s regulatory interactions, examinations, and change management processes. This will involve end-to-end responsibility for such activities, including:
scanning the regulatory horizon for forthcoming changes;
facilitating the successful implementation of any such regulatory changes with a specific focus on establishing methodology to be utilized in regulatory filings and interactions;
advising stakeholders regarding their regulatory obligations and associated processes used to facilitate compliance; and
oversight of quality assurance processes to ensure accurate and timely execution of relevant filings and interactions.
The Senior Compliance Counsel will also be expected to work with the Chief Compliance Officer (“CCO”), Deputy CCO, and other senior leaders on strategic initiatives and essential workstreams. For a high achiever, this strategic work is expected to increase over time and ultimately the scope of the role will be limited only by the abilities and dedication of the person inhabiting it.
We are looking for candidates with the following minimum qualifications:
J.D. from a top tier law school
5-10 years at a law firm and/or in-house legal or compliance team with a focus on asset management and private funds
Familiarity with regulations applicable to alternative investment managers and private funds
Comfort operating proactively and independently while simultaneously not being afraid to ask for help when required
Thrives in a fast-paced environment; comfortable juggling priorities and escalating when at risk of failure
Strong project management and oversight capabilities; willingness to hold others accountable to deadlines and obligations
Strong interpersonal skills; professional, team-oriented with strong work ethic and a “can-do, will-do” attitude
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational and time management skill with a strong attention to detail
