The Bookkeeper reports to the Senior Accountant and is responsible for supporting the effective functioning of the Abby’s House finances through performing various accounting tasks in a timely and organized manner. This includes clerical responsibilities related to accounts receivables and accounts payables. The following list is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and requirements associated with this job:
Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable
Following established guidelines and agency procedures, accurately maintain accounting records and files, and properly record expenses and revenue from all sources using QuickBooks.
Prepare regular reports for Property Management and Development staff to assist with the timely collection of rents and donor recognition.
Process credit card and other donations from online giving platforms.
Reconcile or note and report any differences identified in records.
Prepare bank deposits, print checks and follow-up with vendors on invoices as directed.
Provide administrative support to the Senior Accountant, Executive Director, and supervisors and managers as requested.
Assist with preparation for annual audits.
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and annual evaluations and be committed to ongoing growth and improvement in the position.
Associate degree or equivalent business experience.
Minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience.
Full understanding of accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, General Ledger Journal Entries, Purchasing Process, Bank Reconciliations and Monthly closing preparation.
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to take direction.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a changing environment.
Ability to work with all levels of staff and management to help with day to day workflow.
Ability to meet deadlines and maintain focus on routine, repetitive tasks essential.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality standards of Abby’s House and exemplify compassion, hospitality.
Requires additional 5-10 hours per week during certain high-volume times of the year.
Requires reliable transportation to make several trips to the bank per week.
Ability to occasionally work evenings or weekends.
Additional Salary Information: This is a regular part-time position requiring 25 hours per week: Monday-Friday, 10:00am-3:00pm with variations to be scheduled with the candidate. Abby’s House pro-rates 4 weeks of paid vacation time and holiday time to regular, part-time staff and offers paid sick time. This is a part-time position with the potential to be full-time.

Our mission is “to provide shelter and affordable housing, as well as advocacy and support services, to homeless, battered and low-income women, with or without children.” Following GAAP standards of accounting principles, the Finance Department is responsible for management of the organization’s financial controls and accounting systems, and preparation of financial statements and reports used for budgeting and organizational decision-making.
